Ambulance & ParamedicsBringing emergency treatment to the patient, changing expectations and demands from patients and the public alike are all challenges the Service has to face. The Ambulance & Rescue Service responds to 3,600 emergencies a year, this includes calls to the neighbouring Islands of Herm and Sark. Care is delivered to the patient by 18 Paramedics (includes officers) and 24 Emergency Medical Technicians, all of whom have gained IHCD qualifications by attending UK Ambulance trust colleges. The Service responds to 999 calls and requests for immediate response by clinicians. All vehicles are dispatched from the Services own on site Ambulance Control. All frontline vehicles are well equipped with oxygen, suction, spinal boards, analgesia, drug therapy and most importantly a defibrillator. All other vehicles are equipped with a first response bag and smaller automated defibrillators. The Service also employs 3 full time Patient Transport staff, transporting 7,000 non emergency patients a year. Our fleet comprises of 15 vehicles, some being multi functional.
New for 2010Guernsey Ambulance & Rescue Service are the first UK ambulance service to take delivery of two new front line emergency ambulances from European manufacturer Ambulanz-Mobile of Germany. These two new vehicles are a direct replacement for the two oldest vehicles in the Ambulance & Rescue fleet which are now 11 years old. A cost saving of around £15000 per vehicle has been made in comparison with the cost of an equivalent UK produced ‘modular’ vehicle. Chief Ambulance Officer Jon Beausire said, “Guernsey Ambulance & Rescue Service has a history of innovation and ‘firsts’ among ambulance services. With these new front line emergency ambulances, designed and built specifically for both our and our patients needs, we are continuing that trend and ensuring that we continue to provide the people of Guernsey with the best possible emergency treatment and care.” |
